Turkish VP Cevdet Yılmaz calls for stronger support to TRNC

Türkiye’s Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz has called on member states of the Organisation of Turkic States to increase their support for the TRNC, highlighting the importance of strengthening ties and backing the Turkish Cypriots’ cause internationally.

Speaking at the meeting of Government Heads and Deputy Heads of State of the Organisation of Turkic States in Baku, Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz drew attention to the TRNC and called for greater support.

Yılmaz expressed satisfaction over the participation of TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel as an observer and thanked Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Ali Asadov for their strong support for the Turkish Cypriots’ rightful cause.

He underlined the strategic importance of the island of Cyprus, noting that recent regional developments have further increased its significance. Yılmaz stated that the TRNC should be regarded as a common asset of the Turkic World, representing shared interests in the region.

In this framework, he invited all member states to strengthen political, economic and cultural relations with the TRNC, increase contacts, and support the Turkish Cypriots’ legitimate cause in the international arena.

Yılmaz also emphasised the goal of further strengthening the Organisation of Turkic States as an effective cooperation mechanism producing concrete solutions for member countries and their peoples. He noted that proposals to be shared at the meeting would contribute to accelerating joint efforts and help unlock the full potential of Turkic states.

Highlighting the importance of energy and transport connectivity among Turkic states in the face of global and regional challenges, Yılmaz pointed to strong cooperation potential in areas such as renewable energy, natural gas, electricity grids and critical minerals.

He added that maintaining peace and stability across Turkic states is vital not only for regional prosperity but also for ensuring uninterrupted international trade and energy supply security.
