MHP leader, junior coalition partner, vows Türkiye will not abandon TCs
Devlet Bahçeli, leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), the junior coalition partner in Türkiye’s government, has stated that no one should expect Türkiye to abandon Northern Cyprus, describing the Cyprus issue as a core national cause and a matter of sovereignty.
Speaking at his party’s group meeting at the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, Bahçeli drew attention to what he described as Israel’s destabilising policies in the region, saying Israel has turned the Middle East into “a ring of fire” and poses a threat to regional stability.
He argued that if any regime change were to take place in the Middle East, it should be in Israel, adding that Türkiye remains a source of hope for the global order.
Reiterating Türkiye’s stance on Cyprus, Bahçeli stressed that no one should expect Ankara to leave Northern Cyprus alone, particularly at a time when the Greek Cypriot side is increasing its armament.
He said Türkiye would not ignore threats directed at Turkish Cypriots.
Bahçeli underlined that Cyprus is not an ordinary foreign policy matter for Türkiye but a national cause and an indispensable issue of sovereignty, emphasising that Türkiye will continue to stand firmly by Turkish Cypriots.
