Several draft laws approved in the General Assembly

Several draft laws, along with legislation returned to Parliament by the President for reconsideration, were discussed and approved at the General Assembly of parliament.

The Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Law was also passed by majority vote after the prison sentence provision in Article 23B was removed.

During the General Assembly of Parliament, several draft laws as well as laws returned by the President for reconsideration were discussed.

The “Approval Bill on the Protocol Between the Government of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Government of the Republic of Türkiye on Health Services Support” was approved by majority vote.

The “Amendment Law on the Transfer and Lease of Low Forest Lands,” which had been returned by the President for reconsideration, was also discussed and approved by majority vote.

The General Assembly then took up the “Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Law” returned by the President for reconsideration.

The Republican Turkish Party proposed the removal of Article 23B from the law.

The proposal was rejected by majority vote.

The National Unity Party meanwhile, submitted an amendment proposal regarding the first and second paragraphs of the article.

Under the amendment, prison sentences targeting journalists were removed and replaced only with monetary fines.

The proposal was accepted by majority vote.

The Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Law was then approved by majority vote in the General Assembly.

The Assembly General Assembly also discussed and approved the Credit Interest Support Fund Bill.
