TRNC marks 107th anniversary of Atatürk’s Samsun landing with weeklong events
The 107th anniversary of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s landing in Samsun and the May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day is being marked across the TRNC with ceremonies and events.
Throughout the week, students will take part in cortege marches, dance performances and a range of sporting, cultural, social and environmental activities.
As part of the programme, students are taking part today and tomorrow in the “Champion Angels” Beach Volleyball Tournament.
A handball tournament for secondary school and high school students, organised in memory of Tolga Kınacı, will be held on Monday.
Students are also scheduled to visit state protocol officials tomorrow and on Friday.
Official May 19 celebrations will begin on Tuesday morning with an address by Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu on Bayrak Radio Television Corporation at 8 am.
The state ceremony in Lefkoşa will take place at 9 am in front of the Atatürk Monument.
As part of the celebrations, a “107th Anniversary Cortege” involving students and teachers from central Lefkoşa schools and universities will also be held at 6 pm.
Additional ceremonies and activities are planned in Gazimağusa, Girne, Güzelyurt and İskele.
The week-long programme includes cortege marches, dance performances and various sporting, cultural, social and environmental events involving students from across the country.
