Acting Pr. Öztürkler receives DEİK Türkiye-TRNC Business Council delegation

Acting President and Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Ziya Öztürkler received the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK) Türkiye-TRNC Business Council delegation and Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Commerce President Turgay Deniz.

Speaking during the reception, Türkiye-TRNC Business Council President Fatih Mehmet Keçebir stated that DEİK’s perspective regarding the TRNC was quite different.

“We emphasise not only the commercial dimension of the matter, but also its strategic importance,” said Keçebir, underlining the importance of cooperation.

Acting President and Speaker of the Assembly Ziya Öztürkler also drew attention to the importance of the economy, saying, “I attach great importance to the bridge you will establish here and to the cooperation that will be carried out during a period when economic difficulties are being experienced.”

Öztürkler noted that projects to be developed jointly by businesspeople in both the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and Türkiye were important and expressed his hope for increased cooperation that would contribute to the economic development of the TRNC.

Referring to the Economic and Financial Cooperation Agreement signed by Prime Minister Ünal Üstel and Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Öztürkler said such initiatives were important.

“The connections you establish and the economic developments they bring are important, especially in helping to ease some of the difficulties caused by the effects of war and high inflation,” Öztürkler said.
