Delegations from the United States and Iran will meet again in Islamabad for peace negotiations.
US President Donald Trump, in an interview with Fox News, evaluated the US attacks against Iran and the progress of the peace negotiation process.
Using past tense expressions when referring to the war with Iran, Trump said, when asked whether the war had truly ended, “I think it’s very close to ending. I mean, I see the situation as very close to being over.”
“You know, if I were to completely pull out from there right now, it would take them 20 years to rebuild that country. Our job isn’t finished yet; we’ll see what happens. I think they genuinely want to make a deal” he said.
Commenting on the decision to launch attacks against Iran, Trump argued that if such a decision had not been made, the US would now be facing a nuclear-armed Iran.
Trump stated that a second round of talks with Iran could take place “within the next two days.”
Meanwhile, the US military announced that all maritime trade with Iran had been completely halted.
In a statement from US Central Command, it was noted that in less than 36 hours since the implementation of the blockade, US forces had entirely stopped all economic trade entering and leaving Iran by sea.
There have also been active developments on the Pakistan–Türkiye diplomatic front.
Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, hosted a quadrilateral meeting between Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Pakistan.
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister called for the establishment of a framework for cooperation among the four countries.
Meanwhile, it was announced that Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will visit Saudi Arabia and Türkiye as part of mediation efforts between the United States and Iran.
