The 21st Once Upon a Time Lurucina Fair held in Akıncılar Village Square

The biannual fair in Akıncılar took place on Sunday.,

The “21st Once Upon a Time Lurucina Fair”  held in the village square hosted numerous events reflecting Cypriot culture and traditions.

In the speeches delivered during the event, emphasis was placed on the importance of preserving culture, arts, traditions, and customs.

The “21st Once Upon a Time Lurucina Fair,” organised by the Değirmenlik Akıncılar Municipality, was held in Akıncılar Village Square.

At the fair reflecting Cypriot culture, traditional food and beverages were offered alongside souvenir stands.

Throughout the day, concerts, musical performances, and dance shows were organised.

The opening speech of the event was delivered by Akıncılar village headman Mustafa Eğmez, who thanked everyone who contributed to organising the fair.

Değirmenlik Akıncılar Mayor Ali Karavezirler also noted the importance of preserving culture, arts, traditions, and customs.

Referring to efforts to carry Lurucina into the future, Karavezirler stated that identity signs had been placed in all villages in the region.

Stressing that Lurucina was a special village, Karavezirler said, “Together we will take steps for the future. As a municipality, we are ready to do our part.”

Republican Turkish Party (CTP) leader Sıla Usar İncirli, who attended the event, stated that the people of the region were hardworking and courageous.

Highlighting the importance of carrying culture into the future and remembering the past, İncirli expressed her longing for Lurucina’s earlier days.

She also touched upon the issue of the Akıncılar border crossing, reminding us of the importance of increasing crossing points.

“Let the crossings open, then come and see Lurucina. We want our people to return. We are working to leave a country that future generations will be proud of,” İncirli said.

The event, attended by many members of parliament and citizens, also marked a first.

The music video for “Mısmıl Muhabbet,” a song by Turkish Cypriot artist and fashion designer Abdullah Öztoprak, inspired by cultural roots and produced with a short film aesthetic, was presented to the audience at the fair.

In his speech about the project, Öztoprak stated that with the clip, they aimed to present the identity and productive nature of the Turkish Cypriot people to the world through music.

“We were not a wealthy society, but we were a productive one,” Öztoprak said.
