BRT Director marks World Press Freedom Day with message on media’s vital role

Bayrak Radyo Televizyon Kurumu Director Meryem Özkurt has issued a message marking World Press Freedom Day, emphasising the essential role of media in democratic societies.

Özkurt underlined that press freedom remains one of the fundamental pillars of the democratic order, highlighting its importance in ensuring access to accurate and reliable information.

Özkurt drew attention to the vital role of the press in ensuring that the public has access to accurate, impartial and reliable information, noting that media professionals fulfil this responsibility with a strong sense of duty.

She reiterated that press freedom is one of the cornerstones of a democratic society.

In her message, Özkurt stressed that protecting and strengthening press freedom is indispensable for safeguarding freedom of expression and ensuring the healthy functioning of democracy.

She also extended her congratulations to all members of the press on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day.
