Tatlısu hosts 10th Herb Culture Festival
The 10th Tatlısu Herb Culture Festival was held yesterday in the village square under the slogan “Reconnecting with nature, returning to nature,” bringing together citizens for a day of cultural and healthy living activities.
The festival, organized to promote edible wild herbs and raise awareness about healthy nutrition, featured a variety of events throughout the day and drew strong public interest.
The 10th edition of the Tatlısu Herb Culture Festival was organized by the Tatlısu Municipality with contributions from Final Organization.
President Tufan Erhürman also attended the festival, engaging with citizens. The opening featured a folk dance performance by the Tatlısu Municipality team.
During the event, researcher-writer Zekai Altan and Mustafa Şah provided detailed information on edible herbs in Turkish Cypriot cuisine. Tatlısu Mayor Hayri Orçan highlighted the importance of incorporating natural foods into weekly diets, noting that 46 types of edible herbs have been identified in the region and documented in Altan’s latest book.
Republican Turkish Party leader Sıla Usar İncirli stated that the festival not only raises awareness about healthy eating but also contributes to the region’s economy and tourism. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu emphasized the importance of preserving cultural heritage and announced efforts to better organize festival calendars and expand participation through cooperation with municipalities.
Following the speeches, participants were offered dishes prepared from locally grown herbs.
The festival also featured stands showcasing handmade natural products, along with entertainment activities and concerts throughout the day. Citizens attending the event told BRT that they try to include edible herbs in their daily diets and expressed positive views about the festival.
