Vehicle Exemption expanded for people with disabilities

New rules have been introduced to make it easier for people with disabilities to purchase vehicles under customs duty exemptions.

The maximum engine capacity has been increased to 3,000 cc, while the maximum vehicle value has been raised to 30,000 pounds.

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel announced that the Council of Ministers has approved new regulations aimed at making it easier for people with disabilities to purchase vehicles suited to their needs.

Under the new rules, the maximum engine capacity for vehicles purchased under the customs duty exemption has been increased to 3,000 cc, while the maximum vehicle value has been raised to 30,000 pounds.

The expanded exemption will also cover electric vehicles and specially equipped vehicles fitted with ramps or lifts for people with limited mobility.

Üstel said the changes would give people with disabilities and their families greater access to safer and more comfortable vehicles that better meet their needs.

He said making everyday life easier for people with disabilities was a responsibility of the social state, adding that previous limits had become inadequate due to changing vehicle prices, technology and market conditions.

The Prime Minister said eligible individuals or their families must meet the required medical and legal conditions.

Those who already own a duty-free vehicle under the scheme will not be eligible to use the exemption for a second vehicle.

A new exemption will also not be granted until three years have passed from the date the previously exempted vehicle was registered.

Üstel said the government would continue working to remove barriers, expand equal opportunities and improve the quality of life of people with disabilities.
