Veteran statesman Gürler was laid to rest

A ceremony was held at the Republic’s Assembly for former minister and a member of parliament Recep Ali Gürler, who passed away.

During the ceremony, the importance of Gürler’s contributions to the Turkish Cypriot people was stressed, and it was noted that his advice to the younger generation would always be remembered.

The late Gürler was laid to rest at the Lefkoşa Cemetery.

A ceremony was held at the Republic’s Assembly for Recep Ali Gürler, former Deputy Speaker of the Assembly of the Turkish Federated State of Cyprus, as well as a former minister and a member of parliament.

The ceremony was attended by President Tufan Erhürman, Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Ziya Öztürkler, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Ali Murat Başçeri, as well as several ministers, members of parliament, and loved ones.

The ceremony began with a moment of silence, followed by the reading of the late Gürler’s biography.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Ali Gürler stated that his father was a man who dedicated his life to his people, his family, and his values, stressing that his advice would always guide them.

Speaker of the Assembly Ziya Öztürkler said that Gürler was one of the important figures in Turkish Cypriot politics.

He stressed Gürler made great efforts to protect the rights of the people in the positions he held, noting that they taken pride in the legacy he left to the Turkish Cypriot community.

“Gürler was a special individual who contributed greatly to the Turkish Cypriot people. He always offered advice to the youth, carried a deep love for the homeland in his heart, and was someone who struggled for our country” Öztürkler said.

President Tufan Erhürman, who also spoke at the ceremony, stated that they were bidding farewell to Gürler with respect, gratitude, and sorrow.

Erhürman noted that Gürler was an exemplary figure respected by all segments of society and that he acted with a strong sense of responsibility in every position he held.

“Gürler was one of the finest examples of devotion to his family, his country, and his people. I witnessed how this devotion was shaped by love. I offer my condolences to his family and loved ones” he said.

Following the speeches Gürler was laid to rest at the Lefkoşa Cemetery following noon prayers.
