Transported 4 grams of cocaine for 250 euros: Released on bail
D.M., who was arrested in Nicosia on charges of importing and possessing cocaine, has been brought back to court.
Police officer Adnan Kardeşler, presenting the facts in court, stated that on October 11, 2026, the suspect crossed from South Cyprus to North Cyprus via the Metehan Border Crossing, and a search was conducted on her person and in her vehicle.
The police stated that during the search, a total of 4 grams of cocaine-type drugs in 9 separate packages were found on the suspect.
Noting that the suspect was arrested and an investigation was launched, the police explained that D.M. confessed in her statement that she picked up the drugs from a specified location in South Cyprus upon the instructions of someone, and that she would receive 250 euros in exchange for leaving them at another location in North Cyprus.
The police stated that the suspect was previously brought before the court and an additional 3-day detention period was obtained, that the necessary investigation was completed within this period, and that the suspect confessed to her crime.
Stating that D.M. is a TRNC citizen and a mother of one child, the police requested that she be bound over with appropriate bail to ensure her presence at future hearings.
Taking the floor in court, the suspect D.M. said that she carried out the drug-carrying job in order to look after her child and cover educational expenses.
Evaluating the testimony before her, Judge Gizem Erciyas ordered that the suspect be banned from leaving the country until her trials are heard.
The court also ordered the release of the suspect on condition that she deposit 50,000 TL in cash bail, two guarantors sign a bail bond worth 700,000 TL each, and that she report to the police twice a week.
