Suspect released in million-lira exchange office embezzlement allegation
Police officer Ahmet Sinanoğlu, testifying in court, presented the findings regarding the incident. Sinanoğlu stated that the suspect was arrested following a complaint alleging that, while working as an employee at Moonstar Foreign Exchange Bureau in Nicosia between May and August 2026, the suspect misappropriated a total of 1,176,874 TL, 8,000 GBP, 5,700 US Dollars, and 2,120 Euros in cash obtained from transactions instead of handing them over to the company owner.
Police stated that the case came to their attention on October 6, 2026, and the named individual was arrested in execution of an arrest warrant. Police noted that examinations of the exchange office documents and security cameras are ongoing, as well as the review of the suspect’s bank accounts and mobile phone. Police stated that although the investigation continues, the suspect cannot affect the inquiry. Noting that the suspect was released on bail in September for the offense of criminal threat, police requested that the suspect also be released on bail for the offense of theft by an employee.
Evaluating the testimony presented, Judge Gizem Erciyas ordered the suspect to be released pending trial, subject to a ban on leaving the country, depositing 100,000 TL in cash, signing a bail bond of 400,000 TL by two sureties each, and reporting to the police once a week.
