Caught at a road checkpoint: 6 people found without residence permits

S.L., M.M.R., M.A.R., H.M., M.A., and A.U.R., who were arrested for staying in the TRNC without a residence permit, have been brought before the court.

Police officer Aysın Erdemir, testifying in court regarding the incident, presented the findings.

The police stated that during checks carried out by the Demirhan Police Station teams on the Famagusta-Nicosia Main Road on October 16, 2026, it was determined that S.L. had been in the TRNC without a residence permit for 25 days since September 21, 2026, M.M.R. for 73 days since August 4, 2026, M.A.R. for 151 days since May 18, 2026, A.U.R. for 45 days since August 31, 2026, H.M. for 51 days since August 26, 2026, and M.A. for 77 days since July 31, 2026.

Noting that the suspects were arrested, the police stated that the investigation had just begun and necessary correspondence regarding their immigration status would be carried out, requesting an additional 3 days of detention from the court.

Evaluating the testimony before her, Judge Gizem Erciyas ordered the 6 suspects to remain in custody for 3 days.
