Speaker Öztürkler reacts to the provocative actions of Greek Cypriot youths

Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Ziya Öztürkler made a statement regarding the demonstration carried out by Greek Cypriot youths at the Lokmacı Border Gate on the 42nd anniversary of the founding of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Öztürkler said, “Those who approach our flag with hatred must know that they are confronting not just a symbol, but the honour, history, and future of an entire people.”

The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Ziya Öztürkler stated that on the 42nd anniversary of the founding of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, a group of Greek Cypriot youths staged an organized and provocative demonstration at the Lokmacı Border Crossing.

Öztürkler emphasized that the group chanting “Türkiye out” and “Turkish army out” was a manifestation of a mindset nourished not by peace, but by hatred.

Noting that ELAM – a terrorist organization- is currently the third-largest political force in South Cyprus, Öztürkler said the organization carries the legacy of EOKA, continues along the line of Grivas and Sampson, and—with the support of the Church—maintains its hostile stance toward the Turkish army and the Turkish Cypriot people.

He added that fanatical Greek Cypriot youth, acting as the street-level subcontractors of this ideological legacy, fuel hate politics with provocative actions.

Speaker Öztürkler said, “Given these realities, it is unacceptable to present us with an imposed solution model that is far from political equality.”

He continued: “Those who approach our flag with hatred must know that they are confronting not merely a symbol but the honour, history, and future of a people. Developments are being closely monitored on our side, and a strong response will be given at every relevant platform.”
