Pyla Peace Festival to be held on Saturday… Leaders will also attend the festival
The festival, which will be attended by President Tufan Erhürman and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides, is being jointly organized by the Pyla Turkish Mukhtar, the Pyla Greek Mukhtar, and the UN Peacekeeping Force Pyla Office.
The one-day festival will take place on the artificial turf pitch behind the Pyla Turkish Primary School, starting at 19.00.
-Pyla Turkish Mukhtar Güden
In a statement to the Turkish News Agency Cyprus (TAK), Pyla Turkish Mukhtar Veysal Güden said that the history of the festival dates back to before his term and that it has been organized as a bi-communal event for many years.
Stating that the festival was suspended in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Güden noted that the event could not be held in subsequent years due to issues with crossings following Brexit and various other setbacks.
-Two music groups and a bi-communal folklore team will take the stage at the festival
Stating that this year the festival will be organized with a single-day and limited program, Güden said that one music band from each of the Turkish and Greek Cypriot sides will perform at the event.
Expressing that a bi-communal folklore team consisting of Turkish and Greek Cypriot members will also perform a show, Güden noted that while more comprehensive programs were organized in previous years, they decided to keep the program shorter this year taking into account seasonal conditions and the preparation process.
-Preparations continue for the leaders’ participation in the festival
Following the announcement by President Tufan Erhürman and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides following their meeting yesterday that they would attend the Pyla Peace Festival, Güden noted that organizational and security preparations for the leaders’ participation are ongoing.
Güden stated that it has not yet been clarified whether the leaders will deliver speeches within the scope of the festival.
