“No solution can be built on injustice,” Erdoğan says on Cyprob

President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made statements on Cyprus after a cabinet meeting he attended.

Erdoğan said, “If the Greek Cypriot side displays the same constructive attitude shown by the Turkish Cypriots, a fair and realistic solution on the island — based on sovereign equality and equal international status — can be achieved.”

Recalling his meeting with the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Tufan Erhürman, on 13 November, Erdoğan said that the two leaders had discussed steps that could be taken jointly towards a fair, lasting, and reality-based solution in Cyprus.

Erdoğan emphasised, “It is important that Mr Erhürman, in his recent messages to the Greek Cypriot side, underlined that the Turkish Cypriots will not compromise on their sovereign equality. We consider attempts to revive past proposals — tried many times before with no result — as a waste of time”.

He continued to say that they have repeatedly stressed that a solution to the Cyprus issue lies in the coexistence of the two states.

“If the Greek Cypriot side shows the same courage, will, and constructive attitude that the Turkish Cypriot side has demonstrated from the very beginning, then a lasting, fair and realistic solution based on sovereign equality and equal international status can be found. Otherwise, no solution can be built on injustice,” said Erdoğan.
