Lebanon death toll rises amid ongoing Israel attacks

The death toll from Israeli attacks on Lebanon since March 2 has risen to 2,679, as tensions in the region continue to escalate alongside developments linked to the Iran conflict.

At the same time, US President Donald Trump announced that American naval vessels will begin escorting ships through the Strait of Hormuz starting today.

According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, the number of people injured in the attacks has reached 8,229, with the death toll increasing by 20 from the previous figure. Israeli forces launched intensified air strikes on March 2, targeting multiple areas in southern Lebanon and leading to widespread destruction and displacement.

Lebanese authorities have also reported that more than one million people have been displaced during the attacks. At the same time, clashes have continued despite a temporary ceasefire that took effect on April 17 and was later extended for three additional weeks. Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon have persisted, with Hezbollah continuing to respond.

Meanwhile, President Trump stated that the operation, named the “Freedom Project,” will ensure the safe passage of ships in the Strait of Hormuz. He said several countries had requested assistance, noting that US naval forces would escort vessels exiting the Gulf.

Trump emphasised that the ships involved are not connected to the Iran conflict and described the initiative as a humanitarian effort.

He also warned that force could be used if the operation is obstructed.

The US President added that ongoing talks with Iran have been “very positive” and could lead to beneficial outcomes for all sides.
