Erhürman condemns flag-burning incident in the South

President Tufan Erhürman has strongly condemned an incident in the South where a group of individuals burned the flags of the Republic of Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus during religious holiday celebrations.

Describing the act as a provocation, Erhürman stressed that such actions undermine respect and coexistence on the island and reflect a troubling mindset.

In his statement, President Erhürman emphasized that burning flags does not diminish their value or that of the nations they represent, but instead reveals a clear lack of civility on the part of those involved.

He described the act as a manifestation of a provocative mentality and said such recurring incidents should be a matter of concern and condemnation primarily for the Greek Cypriot leadership.

Erhürman strongly condemned both the provocation and the mindset behind it, underlining that such actions deepen divisions rather than contribute to peace and mutual understanding on the island.
