Dev-İş launches indefinite strike at KPET
The Petroleum Workers’ Union (Petrol-İş), operating under the Federation of Revolutionary Workers’ Trade Unions (Dev-İş), announced that it has launched an indefinite strike at KPET as of October 14, 2026, demanding that 9 personnel facing dismissal continue their duties and have their job descriptions defined.
In a social media post by Dev-İş, it was stated that despite all good-faith and solution-oriented approaches by Petrol-İş, the employer has not taken a step back regarding the 9 personnel targeted for dismissal.
The statement noted that during a meeting attended by the employer upon the call of Minister of Labour and Social Security Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu, it was proposed that the said dismissal decisions be withdrawn and the 9 personnel be placed in positions where they are needed. It was conveyed that the union expressed its readiness for compromise, stating that there are vacant positions needed within the company.
The statement mentioned that the employer side requested a 24-hour evaluation period, but no response or feedback was provided even though 24 hours had passed since the meeting.
“BOARD OF DIRECTORS DECISION IS IRREGULAR”
Alleging that an examination by the Ministry of Finance determined the dismissal decision taken at the KPET Board of Directors meeting to be irregular, the statement argued that the decision lacked the signatures of all board members and that all members were not notified that such a matter was on the agenda. It was stated that this irregularity was also conveyed to the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.
Expressing that the company’s financial status is important for the union, the statement claimed that the data shows the company has multiplied its profit rates.
Dev-İş noted that they expect the Ministry of Labour and Social Security to take the alleged irregular decision into account and not accept the dismissals. The statement also called on KPET management to abandon this attitude and allow the workers to continue their jobs.
Stating that the indefinite strike will continue until the decisions regarding the dismissal of the 9 personnel are withdrawn and their job descriptions are made, the union concluded with the words, “We will win by resisting!”
