Ruso: We will overhaul waste system at Serdarlı–Ergenekon dumpsite

Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Geçitkale-Serdarlı mayoral candidate Ruso visited the dumpsite area between Serdarlı and Ergenekon to conduct an on-site inspection following a recent fire, according to a party statement.

Drawing attention to recurring fires in the area, Ruso said, “Moreover, this is not the first fire in this exact location this year. The area has repeatedly made headlines throughout the year with similar incidents. This clearly shows that the problem cannot be resolved simply by responding after a fire breaks out.”

Stressing that waste storage practices must change, Ruso said, “The real issue is that leaving waste accumulated over years in an open area is no longer sustainable. Our goal is not just to collect rubbish, but to establish a system that resolves the problem at its source.”

Outlining his plans for environmental cleanliness and waste management, Ruso said: “Under our ‘Clean Villages – Safe Fields’ project, we will reorganise the waste collection and sorting system, combat illegal dumping, establish regular cleaning schedules across our villages, and set up a reporting and request system where residents can easily report issues.”

Addressing the existing uncontrolled dumpsite between Serdarlı and Ergenekon, Ruso stated, “We do not want this current uncontrolled dumpsite to remain a permanent problem. We will initiate the necessary process with the relevant authorities to rehabilitate the site and transfer waste to a controlled system appropriate for human and environmental health.”

Pledging immediate action within his first 100 days in office, Ruso added, “During the first 100 days, we will clearly assess the state of the existing waste system, identify priority problem areas, and begin taking action.”

Emphasising the vital importance of a clean environment for public health, farming, and quality of life, Ruso concluded: “A clean environment is not just an aesthetic matter. It means health, safe agriculture, and quality of life. Our goal is not to provide temporary fixes, but to build a lasting order where these problems do not recur repeatedly. Clean villages, healthy tomorrows.”
