Parliamentary committee completes second reading of student dormitories bill

The Republican Assembly’s Legal, Political Affairs, Foreign Relations and Defence Committee has completed the second reading of the draft approval bill concerning the student dormitories protocol signed between the TRNC and Turkey.

According to information released by the Republican Assembly, the committee convened today under the leadership of National Unity Party (UBP) MP Yasemi Öztürk.

The committee reviewed the “Draft Law (Approval) on the Endorsement of the Protocol Concerning the Construction, Operation, and Management of Higher Education Student Dormitories Between the Government of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Government of the Republic of Turkey” and concluded its second reading. Because the bill does not carry an urgency designation, its third reading was postponed to the next meeting.

Officials from the Ministry of National Education presented their views during the session, which was attended by committee members and UBP MPs Sadık Gardiyanoğlu and Alişan Şan.
