Dev-İş launches indefinite strike at KPET

The Petrol-İş Union, operating under the Federation of Revolutionary Workers’ Trade Unions (Dev-İş), has announced the launch of an indefinite strike at KPET as of October 14, 2026, demanding that nine personnel facing dismissal remain in their jobs and have their job descriptions defined.

In a social media post by Dev-İş, it was stated that despite all the well-intentioned and solution-oriented approaches of the Petrol-İş Union, the employer has not taken a step back regarding the nine personnel targeted for dismissal.

The statement noted that during a meeting called by Minister of Labour and Social Security Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu, which was also attended by the employer, it was proposed that the dismissal decisions be withdrawn and the nine personnel be assigned to needed areas. It was conveyed that the union stated there are vacant positions needed and that it was ready for compromise.

Stating that the employer side requested a 24-hour evaluation period, the statement reported that no response had been given even though 24 hours had passed since the meeting.

“BOARD OF DIRECTORS DECISION IS IRREGULAR”

The statement claimed that an inspection by the Ministry of Finance determined that the dismissal decision taken at the KPET Board of Directors meeting was irregular, defending that not all board members had signed the decision and that all members had not been notified that such a topic was on the agenda. It was stated that this irregularity was also communicated to the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.

Expressing that the company’s financial status is important for the union, the statement claimed that data shows the company has multiplied its profit margins.

Dev-İş noted that they expect the Ministry of Labour and Social Security to take into account the decision stated to be irregular and not accept the dismissals. The statement also called on KPET management to abandon this attitude and allow the workers to continue their jobs.

Stating that the indefinite strike will continue until the decisions regarding the dismissal of the nine personnel are withdrawn and their job descriptions are made, the union used the phrase, “We will win by resisting!”
