Turkish President Erdoğan: Türkiye–TRNC relations to continue unchanged

Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan reaffirmed that relations between Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will continue with the same strength and solidarity as before.

Speaking to reporters on his return flight from his Gulf tour, which included official visits to Kuwait, Qatar, and Oman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan evaluated the TRNC Presidential Election and the start of a new political period.

Responding to a question about the outcome of the election, President Erdoğan said, “The election in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was an important one, and the will of the Turkish Cypriot people is highly respected by us. We can’t look askance at Northern Cyprus.”

He emphasised that Türkiye’s policy towards the TRNC under the AK Party government would remain unchanged and added, “We have always stood by our Turkish Cypriot brothers and will continue to do so.”

Erdoğan also underlined the importance of Türkiye’s investments in the TRNC, noting that modern facilities such as the new Parliament and Presidential buildings were built to reflect the dignity and identity of the Turkish Cypriot state.

The Turkish President said he would hold detailed discussions with President Tufan Erhürman later in the week to review Türkiye–TRNC relations and future cooperation across all areas.
